    What is a Sound Bath?

The idea of a 'sound bath' is Inspired by the Japanese concept of Shinrin-Yoku, or 'forest bathing', a mindful method of immersing oneself in the forest, allowing the senses to fully engage with the natural environment. Like a forest bath, in a sound bath, one is immersing themselves in a safe, supportive space where specialized musical instruments are played live, bathing the body, mind and spirit in soothing sounds & vibrations, promoting profound relaxation and clarity.

At The Stillness Sound Bath Studio, you enter a cozy, candle-lit room

designed to feel still and contained. As you settle into one of our comfy, warm mattresses, you will be led on a journey of sound and vibration composed to mirror the movement of a wave; the first tones light and airy, slowly moving towards the deep-space, profound majesty of the giant gongs.

Never too loud, played skillfully and intuitively, the sonic soundscape moves through you like gentle medicine.

    Testimonials

"Karen’s sound baths are pure magic!  As a participant, I can say there’s truly nothing like it. The way the sound vibrations wash over you, releasing layers of stress and tension, is something you have to experience to believe. If you haven’t experienced one of her sound baths yet, you absolutely should-it’s a gift to yourself that you won’t regret."

"Karen’s sound bath was an unexpectedly deep reset. I went in not knowing what to expect, but the way the sound filled the space and seemed to vibrate through me was something else. It wasn’t just relaxing—it felt like my whole system was recalibrating. By the end, I felt clearer, lighter, and grounded."

    -Ed Pinker, Actor

The Stillness Soundbath Studio is absolutely the most relaxing cocoon of heaven. I sunk into the cozy mattress and floated into a complete mind-body re-set.

    Your Host

My name is Karen and I'm a multi-instrumental soundscape artist who plays sound bowls, gong, drum, native flute, chimes and other sacred sound instruments.

I trained as a meditation and yoga nidra teacher in Nasik, India in 2003 and I've been leading sound-based meditation classes ever since,  evolving from Oms and a single sound bowl to a full studio with several gongs and many other specialized instruments. I've trained in gong with Mike Tamburo, Bear and Shion of B. Love,  Ken Little and Denise Blaney. I absolutely, totally and completely love creating immersive soundscapes that invoke a sense of mystery and magic.

A sound bath is a form of meditation and relaxation. At our studio, you are invited to recline on a cozy mattress and wrap yourself in a warm blanket. The session starts with some gentle guided meditation to help you begin to relax and then the sound bath begins. You are then cocooned and cradled in a soothing soundscape created by instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, and chimes.

A sound bath allows your nervous system to settle and reset. The tones and vibrations guide your body and mind into a state of deep rest, where stress and tension release and the mind grows quieter. Many people leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more balanced.

Wear comfy clothing that you can easily lie down in and just bring yourself. We supply the cozy beds, blankets and pillows. If you're feeling shy about coming alone, please know that we are super warm and welcoming and will make sure you are able to settle in and feel comfortable. Sound baths are about quiet, stillness and introspection.

Weekly group sessions are 1 hour long but everyone arrives 15 minutes early to settle in. So, the session ends up being 1 hour and 15 mins. Our private sessions are 1 hour and 30 mins.

Yes, sound baths are generally safe for everyone! But, if you have implants in your body or aching joints, you may feel the vibrations from the instruments more than usual in those spots. Most people report a sense of release and relief from aches and pains after a sound bath.
